Greek Chicken Meatballs with Tzatziki

I love a dinner that feels like a little vacation on a weeknight. These Greek chicken meatballs are exactly that—tender, herb-flecked, and studded with salty feta, then dunked in cool, garlicky tzatziki. They come together fast, and the leftovers are even better the next day.

Ground chicken can be tricky—it dries out if you're not careful. My fix: a quick soak of breadcrumbs in milk, a generous hit of olive oil, and a hot oven. The result is meatballs that stay juicy and deliver serious protein without any fuss.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken (93% lean)
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 cup crumbled feta cheese
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 cup grated cucumber, squeezed dry
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 clove garlic, grated (for tzatziki)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill (for tzatziki)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (for tzatziki)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly brush with olive oil.
  2. In a large bowl, combine breadcrumbs and milk; let sit for 5 minutes until absorbed. Add ground chicken, egg, feta, minced garlic, oregano, dill, salt, pepper, and 1 tablespoon olive oil. Mix gently with your hands until just combined.
  3. Roll mixture into 1 1/2-inch meatballs (about 20) and place on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with remaining 1 tablespoon olive oil.
  4. Bake for 18–20 minutes, until meatballs are lightly golden and cooked through (internal temperature reaches 165°F).
  5. While meatballs bake, make tzatziki: In a medium bowl, stir together Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, lemon juice, grated garlic, dill, and salt. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
  6. Serve meatballs warm with tzatziki on the side for dipping, or spoon tzatziki over the top. Garnish with extra dill if desired.

Tips for Perfect Greek Chicken Meatballs

Don't overmix the meatball mixture—stop as soon as everything is combined. Overworking the ground chicken makes the meatballs tough. Also, use a cookie scoop or wet your hands to roll them; the mixture is sticky but that's what keeps them moist.

No oven? Sear the meatballs in a skillet over medium heat for 8–10 minutes, turning often, until cooked through. For a flavor twist, add a teaspoon of dried oregano to the tzatziki or serve with warm pita and a simple chopped salad.
