Tart Cherry Sleepytime Nightcap

A warm, calming beverage designed to help you unwind before bed, combining tart cherry juice with chamomile tea, a touch of vanilla, and a pinch of sea salt for a relaxing evening ritual.

Tart cherries are one of the few natural food sources of melatonin, while chamomile has been used for centuries as a gentle sleep aid. This nightcap brings them together in a cozy, lightly sweet drink that feels like a treat but works with your body's natural rhythm.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened tart cherry juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup chamomile tea (or 2 chamomile tea bags)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk (or any milk)
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup (optional)

Method

  1. In a small saucepan, combine the tart cherry juice, water, and chamomile tea. Heat over medium-low heat until steaming, about 5 minutes. Do not boil.
  2. Remove from heat and stir in the almond milk, vanilla extract, and sea salt. If using honey or maple syrup, add it now and stir until dissolved.
  3. If you used loose chamomile tea, strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a mug. If using tea bags, remove and discard them.
  4. Pour into two mugs and serve warm. Sip slowly about 30-60 minutes before bedtime.

Tips for the Perfect Nightcap

Use unsweetened tart cherry juice to control the sweetness. If you prefer it sweeter, add a teaspoon of raw honey or maple syrup after heating. For a dairy-free version, replace the milk with unsweetened almond or oat milk.

The pinch of sea salt enhances the flavor and provides trace minerals, but you can omit it if you're watching sodium. For an extra calming boost, add a teaspoon of collagen powder or a magnesium supplement (check with your doctor first).
