Ingredients
Method
- Cut each onion into 8 wedges, keeping the root end intact to hold layers together. Separate the layers slightly to create petal-like pieces.
- Place flour in one shallow bowl. Beat eggs in a second bowl. In a third bowl, combine panko breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, and salt.
- Dredge each onion wedge in flour, shaking off excess. Dip into beaten eggs, then press into seasoned breadcrumb mixture, coating all sides thoroughly.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375 degrees Fahrenheit for 3 minutes.
- Spray air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place breaded onion bites in a single layer, not touching. Spray tops lightly with cooking spray.
- Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Remove from air fryer and let cool for 2 minutes. Serve immediately with your favorite dipping sauce such as ranch or spicy mayo.

Notes
For extra crispy bites, double coat by repeating the egg and breadcrumb steps. Sweet onions like Vidalia work best as they become tender and caramelized. Store leftovers in an airtight container and reheat in the air fryer at 350 degrees for 3-4 minutes to restore crispiness.
