Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 package frozen dumplings 24 ounces, thawed
  • 24 ounces marinara sauce
  • 15 ounces ricotta cheese
  • 3 cups mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1 cup parmesan cheese grated
  • 2 large eggs beaten
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown the ground beef until fully cooked, about 8 minutes. Drain excess fat and stir in marinara sauce. Simmer for 5 minutes.
  2. In a medium bowl, combine ricotta cheese, beaten eggs, 1 cup mozzarella, half the parmesan, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Mix until well blended.
  3. Spread one-third of the meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish. Arrange half of the thawed dumplings in a single layer over the sauce.
  4. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the dumplings. Sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese.
  5. Add another third of the meat sauce, then the remaining dumplings, remaining ricotta mixture, and another cup of mozzarella cheese.
  6. Spread the remaining meat sauce on top and sprinkle with remaining mozzarella and parmesan cheese. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  7. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden. Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Make sure dumplings are fully thawed before assembling to ensure even cooking. You can prepare this dish up to 24 hours ahead and refrigerate before baking - just add 10 extra minutes to the covered baking time. For extra flavor, try using a mix of beef and Italian sausage for the meat layer.
