Ingredients

Main
  • 4 slices thick brioche or challah bread (slightly stale)
  • 1 cup eggnog (240 ml)
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar or maple syrup (optional)
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp butter, for cooking

Method

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggnog, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, sugar, and salt until smooth.
  2. Dip each slice of bread into the mixture for 10–15 seconds per side, allowing it to soak without falling apart.
  3. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat. Cook soaked bread slices for 2–3 minutes per side until golden and cooked through.
  4. Serve immediately with maple syrup, powdered sugar, fruits, nuts, or whipped cream as desired.

Notes

For a richer version, add 1 tablespoon of cream to the custard. For an adult festive twist, add a splash of rum or bourbon to the eggnog.
